Feature Plant - Daylilies

Wherever you see a glorious display of colour in a well-planned perennial bed, you’ll probably find daylilies in there somewhere. The beautiful, trumpet shaped blooms are available in myriad colours and will thrive in anything from full sun to partial shade.

Why are they called daylilies? The elegant blooms of hemerocallis only last for a day, but because the plants produce so many flowers the display can last for weeks.

Our huge selection of daylilies includes varieties in all colours, and ranging in height from 45cm right up to 100cms.

Some tips on growing daylilies:

  • Daylilies prefer well-drained, fertile soil, but they will still thrive in poor soils or clay.
  • Plant where they will receive some sun.
  • When you plant your daylilies, add some compost or manure to the soil to improve its texture, nutrient content and ability to hold moisture.
  • Water your daylilies to protect them from drying out in the summer months.
